But BE DOERS OF THE WORD [obey God’s message of Truth],
and NOT MERELY LISTENERS [spectators] TO IT,
DECEIVING [betraying, misleading, cheating] YOURSELVES [by reasoning yourself into a way of thinking contrary to the Truth].

Lord, at times, we seem to imagine that we have done all that is demanded when we have listened attentively the Word preached or faithfully read our Bible; yet of its influence on our lives [as it will tell us plainly what we are and what we should be doing] - we have been reluctant to obey parts of it and have, inadvertently, deceived ourselves by falling back on the age-old CRUTCH OF DELAY saying, ‘LET ME PRAY ABOUT IT’; only to realize that when we read or hear it again, it says the same thing!
